Talked to Arcam (because, they never reply to email inquiries); confirmed defective. This was a replacement for a miniBlink, which is a poor device (dropouts, hiccups, low range). The miniBlink was a replacement for a rDAC-kw that died (after warranty, of course). Overall the Arcam airDAC is a brilliant device and one that is so so simple to use. Simply take it out of the packaging, plug it in, quickly go through the simple setup process and you’re ready to start streaming your music through it. Arcam claims this will further improve sound quality. The “i” in irDAC indicates you get a remote control in the box, unlike its predecessor.

The stand-alone DAC concept was not new to the Arcam team as they were the first company to ever launch an affordable outboard DAC back in 1989.
